Well, don’t you know, Sunshine is over-rated, um-hm Gimme raindrops falling from the sky like crystal dew. So it goes, life is an everlasting cloudburst Falling down around me Pitter patter pitter patter hear it fall Wo–o-oah, Saturday morning Listen to the rain falling, there’s nowhere I would rather be. Take me walking, You and I, dancing through the raindrops Hand in hand together Jumping in the puddles till we’re all wet through Wo–o-oah, Sunday morning Listen to the rain falling, there’s nowhere I would rather be. Some dream, I know it’s true, Of sunny days with skies of blue But I know, right here, I got all I could ever need In this rain-drenched, evergreen and happy valley Dontcha just know that… You gotta learn to love the rain

Walking Tall 02:38
Walking tall and singing my song Will you walk with me and sing along? Any tune, happy tunes, songs old and new Will you join me? It’s up to you Once I was afraid to sing out loud, I felt intimidated by the crowd I choked on my words and hid my face Until I put my worries in their place Well you know, my life was a song that was passing me by I had to find a way to sing out before I die So afraid of feeling a fool, I used to hide behind a glass or two Then I found a way to put my fears behind me And now I’ll be a fool gladly Now you know, my song is as free as the wind in the trees Sing with me in harmony, fly by my side Walking tall and singing my song Will you walk with me and sing along? Any tune, happy tunes, songs old and new Will you join me? It’s up to you

Dark Place 03:03
I’ve been in a dark place Deep down and drowning Stranded in a nightmare Far from the light Struggling ever upwards I’ve been desperate, I been searching, tell me How did my heart get trapped in the night Oh, and then, the dawning of the day Swept away all the debris and decay I find I’ve cleared my mind Now the sun is rising And my eyes are open They’re wide open To all that I can see I’ll never take for granted All the joy that life is bringing me I’m dancing on a sunbeam My heart is free Oh yes, I’m free I’m all that I can be Joy of living heals my soul Making me whole again Oh, my heart is free Ah, my soul is free

Ghosts and gob-e-lins Ghouls and grem-e-lins Howling loup garou Witches twitchering The walking undead too Wooooooo! Seek and hidery Spook and spidery Newt’s eye and bat’s claw Shadow flickery Treat or trickery Banging on your door Wooooooo! Ghosts and gob-e-lins Ghouls and grem-e-lins Howling loup garou Witches twitchering Cauldrons smouldering The walking undead too Midnight, Halloween, midnight Halloween!

Cobblestones 02:16
Weather is fine Love the sunshine Sitting on the cobblestones Playing a tune in the afternoon, Sitting on the cobblestones Oh, listen to the radio, Wouldn’t you know – Forecast is snow! Oh, but don’t you believe a word Cos spring is what I’ve heard Stay in the park Till it gets dark Watching the green grass grow Ah-ooh, getting my thrills From birdie trills And daffodils… Weather is fine Love the sunshine Sitting on the cobblestones Singing a tune in the afternoon, Sitting on the cobblestones Oh, listen to the radio, Wouldn’t you know – Forecast is snow! Oh, but don’t you believe a word Cos summer’s what we’ve heard Party all night Till it gets light Longing for the summer time Ah-ooh, getting my thrills From birdie trills And daffodils Weather is fine Love the sunshine Just sitting, and singing On the cobblestones.

Just A Fool 02:30
Just a random call We talk about nothing at all. Just a friendly hug And I can’t breathe at all. The way you read my mood, My mind and my heart, Just like an open book That tells my story Just the gentlest touch, I tingle to my toes. Just the sweetest smile Your dark eyes melt my soul Just passing by You stayed long, easy hours Of chat, and tea And company And stirring in my heart Ooh, just a throwaway line Told me you were mine, But it didn’t mean a thing. There’s no fool like an old fool Playing a game I just can’t win

Drifting 04:36
Driftin, driftin apart All connection soon to be cut Sooner or later, one or the other Will call it a day And there will be no way back No, no way back We’re making small talk As our ship goes down I know I’m losing you But I don’t know what I’m supposed to do There’s this empty space behind your eyes Where your love used to be And you say nothing’s changed, You say there’s nothing more to say And we make small talk As our ship goes down I don’t know how we came to be All sadness and pain And I don’t care who’s to blame I just know this is how we are now Emptiness in the space between us Miles of emptiness between us And we make small talk As our ship goes down Yeah, small talk And our ship’s going down…. And we’re drifting….

about

Liz Dykes & Andy Weatherhead met at the Open Mic Surgery that ran for over ten years each Wednesday night at the Stubbing Wharf pub in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Liz sang a capella in groups ranging from duos to large choirs; Andy composed music and collaborated as a guitarist with local musicians. In 2006 Liz & Andy began writing songs together and performing them locally.

In 2015 they recorded this, their Debut Album Throwaway Lines as The Cobblestones, with local producer Patrick Evans. Patrick is also a singer-songwriter, who grew up in the Calder Valley, and had collaborated with both Liz and Andy on musical projects before setting up his own recording studio in Cragg Vale. He now lives in New York.

The Cobblestones take their inspiration from their surroundings in the Calder Valley, jamming with friends, artwork from local exhibitions and the occasional flood. Their style is modern folk, with influences from pop, jazz and blues.
